CLONE the cat formerly known as Peaches...

September 2006

Clone is our little success story.  My co-worker, Nancy, mentioned to me one day that her sister, Debi, had found some kittens and that two of them were orange.  I don't know why but my husband and I have always wanted an orange tabby.  We're not one to buy pets, our two dogs and one cat are all rescues.

Debi called him Peaches but Nancy's son called him Clone and the other one Chewie.  That struck a chord with my husband because he loves Star Wars.  His full name is now Clone Commander Cody, this character in Episode III has orange on his suit.

At first bringing Clone home was rough, our just about three year 60-pound Charley wanted to play with him constantly and we were afraid he would get too rough.  We were also worried about our grey tabby named Roswell, she has never been really nice to other cats, she grew up with dogs.  It took a little while for her to warm up to him but she "puts up" with him now.  He loves her so and totally looks up to her.  She has had to have two operations for her mammary cancer and both times she had to wear a cone (my husband calls it a bonnet) and stay in a dog crate so that she wouldn't jump too much and open up her stitches.  Each time, Clone would spend the night on top of the cage and stay near her sensing that she wasn't all right and we know he was worried about her.  He knows how to navigate around Charley now and he knows how to hold his own.  Often getting into his kitty cube and pouncing on Charley when he least expects it.

He is such a loving cat which I attribute entirely to Debi's fostering.  He loves to sit on my lap, blankets left out and laundry baskets.  He'll knead the blanket while you pet him and he also sucks on the blanket, which we're not sure why but it's cute.  He fits right into our household, from 4 pounds to now 12 pounds, he is our little Cloney.  He just turned one this past May and we can't imagine life without him.  Thanks so much to Debi, Clone's foster mom, and to the group, you all are doing a wonderful thing for Brevard's cats.

He has a page on Catster too:  http://catster.com/pet_page.php?i=224388&j=t
